The [Mis]Adventures of OZ

Byron Bay is like the summer you always dreamt of having.  And it never has to end here either.  i’ve found that most people who come here don’t leave.  Byron Bay is pretty much amazing.  A lot like home but just way cooler.  It’s full of hippies, surfers, and backpackers.  I am staying at this hostel called the Arts Factory.  It’s pretty much tents and teepees and a few dorms on a lake and next to swamp lands.  The whole place is run by and filled with hippies.  When I got off the bus and asked for directions on how to get here, someone said, you are way too cute to stay there, you don’t have dreads… Another way to describe it: nightly jam sessions, daily drum circles, hair dreading, pool parties, and everyday at four the bar across the street has the best happy hour in australia and everyone from the hostel is there.  There is no such thing as a stranger here in Byron Bay.  At least not at the Arts Factory.  Maybe thats why I’ve had so much trouble leaving.  I only wanted to stay for two days.  I’m going on two weeks.  This place is just so much fun!! All my freinds back home would LOVE this place.

My first day here Curtis and I went to lunch at this sushi restaurant.  It was amazing until we went to pay and realized that the chick let us buy at $13 beer. One beer out of a can.  at that price?! wtf, man, wtf?  So anyways, Curtis and his friend Aaron and I just hung out the rest of the night.  The next day I spent on the beach. Let’s just say I am enjoying the never ending summer.  Everyday routine is wake up, breaky, sun, hammock, sun, happy hour, jungle hut jam sesh.  My friend Kyle from Canada actually emailed me to say I should stay here, but I beat him here and two days later he showed up.  We met up with another girl from San Fran and she’s crazy but fun.  We get along great.  But I’ll admit, sometimes I need a break and some space and the chance to not be around Americans..  not that there’s anything wrong with it..when you travel you just get that way I guess.  This place is actually filled with Americans.  Never really met any until I got here.  Now I know heaps.  I haven’t taken many pictures because I just feel so at home here, and no one takes pictures at home, right?  I’ll get on it though.  Lets see…other fun things… There is always something to do here.  No such thing as strangers..probably the town with the highest concentration of good looking people in one place..  I have so many new friends here that is another reason why night after night I continue to check in after I say I am leaving.  Its a tiny town though.  Some people that come here love it so much they’ve been here for seven months of more, just living in the hostel.  The first day here I went on a bush tucker walk with Cockatoo paul who also plays the digeridoo and I learned all about surviving off plants if I get stranded somewhere with no food! Pretty interesting.  I met some cool girls and we walked to teh light house which is the most easternly point in Australia and at teh top we saw whales breeching!!  Everynight people bust out the goon (after happy hour of course!) and their guitars/drums/digeridoos and jam until midnight, when you have to abandon the “Jungle Hut” and go to the pinic tables where they just hang out.  Other groups of people hang out in teh pool and hot tub or just have bon fires on the beach.  I wish I were more patient because I don’t think this post is doing Byron any justice.  Tonight we’re going to this bar where there is no dance floor, you just hop on teh tables and break it down.  My friend Kyle is the best dancer! So its pretty much the time of your life when you go dance with him.  I think I’ve fallen in love every five seconds here, the boys are so cute! And I’ve gotton a few new nicknames: tornado…and that’s allI can think of for now.  Because after two drinks at happy hour and some goon, I’m really quite hyper and boisterous…who knew?! lol..

One more thing..I bought this amazing tour package.  2 days 3 nights kayaking/camping in Noosa Heads Everglades park.  2 nights 3 days camping 4wheel drive Frasier Island, 3 days 2 nights sailing/sleeping on sailboat going to reef and snorkeling with a dive!!!! ATTN:  anyone who thinks this sounds amazing needs to buy a ticket over here and we can do it together..chances are I’ll be in Byron for a while so I’ll wait before going on that tour package for anyone who wants to join! <3
