The [Mis]Adventures of OZ

I’ve had quite an eventful weekend so far.  Just the way adventures are supposed to be; wild, “wooey”, fast, and spontaneous.  In Brisbane, I started to feel very comfortable. Its supposed to be a good feeling, right? But not as a traveler.  The more comfortable you are, the less likely you are to make haste and get up and go somewhere spontaneously.  I started to feel like the third roommate at Jellain’s house.  I love living there!!  But it was time to go.  I didn’t want to outstay my welcome, although, I hardly think that I could with them.  They are so great.  Last Friday was random.  Jellain asked me if I wanted to make some money.  She got a call at about 3pm saying that there was an opening for a stall (for her stuff, Cherry Blooms) at this event, Girls Night Out.  So we immediately started to pack up the car.  I felt very out of my element.  The girls there were wearing high fashion clothing.  I had to borrow stuff from Jellain.  I felt like an outsider, it was a fashion type expo and I’m not all that into fashion, high fashion.  But I think I did quite well.  Sold a lot.  And during the thing they had chip n dale dancers doing their strip tease lol.  They call them bad boys here.  HAHAHAH.  How awesome is Jellaine! That’s a ton of money!!
The next day Cal, the aussie guy I met on my birthday, picked me up.  He had invited me to go to the Gold Coast with him to an AFL party and to go surfing.  But we never made it to the beach to surf, too much traffic.  That party was kinda crazy..first..I was the only girl besides the kids mom.  Oh, yea, and second, the kid’s mom was hosting the party for her kids..that was a problem in itself..  But none the less it was still entertaining to go to a house party here and I learned lots of slang.  This one kid got hit and knocked out and then his brother was like a wild dog, I thought to myself, Australians are crazy and violent and I am over this bad energy..but things turned out ok.
Later  Cal drove me to Surfer’s and we just kinda hung out around the city and I found a hostel.  We played a game of volleyball right when I got there and my team won each time!!  I got about 12 points while serving! But the hostel I stayed at was really awesome.  It was Surfer’s Backpackers Resort or something like that.  After the volleyball game these girls from Sydney were playing Ring of Fire (they call it King of Beers).  I sat down to play with them and one of the rules, was snake eyes.  Of course I drew that card and it means that no one is allowed to look you in the eyes or else they have to drink.  So we’re sitting around playing that and then a group of guys comes to join us.  My name became Snake Eyes for the rest of the time I was there.  Lol.  So the group of guys that were there were from all over Australia and they were having their Bulls Night which is like a bachelors party for one of the guys.  Probably the guy that walked out wearing the Borat swim suit… haha.  Well, it was good fun.  They taught us the Wooey.  Its their dance move…kinda like a hip thruster, but then you add different things.  One of the girls, Tess was hilarious, I wish she and I could travel together.  She made up the Kangawooey. How clever is that? I definitely want to travel with someone as witty as that!!!  Good fun.  One thing kinda cool about GC and surfer’s is the streets are actually a race track for some road race that they host every year.  So all around the town there’s bleachers in random spots overlooking the road. (sidenote)
So I checked out of my hostel this morning and I’d been waiting around for forever to hear from this girl that agreed to drop me off in Byron Bay. She was heading down to Sydney. Oh, yea… I’m going to Byron Bay to meet Curtis!! (Robbie’s best friend!) I’m so excited that he’s here in Australia!!!  How cool is that?!  OH yea but anyways, that stupid girl didn’t answer my phone call and then when she finally did she’s like, oh I already left, sorry.  Thanks for the call, lady…grrr..but its no problem. I love that even though I didn’t have a ride, it wasn’t a problem.  I just hopped on a bus.  I am really liking this lifestyle of do what I want when I want.  I am like Pocahontas, going with the wind. Right now in the Gold Coast there is a Uni tourney for all sports.  So the town is crawling with them.  Its weird how now that I’m out of college and 23yo, I feel so old.. even though I just graduated, I feel so much older than all the uni kids.  But the next shuttle from the hostel to the transit station wasn’t for another hour.  I decided I’d walk.  As I’m on the way out, this kid is grabbing my bag and its heavy so it throws my balance off.  He’s like, why are you leaving today? If you stay I’ll take you out to ice cream!! Lol.  And that made me feel like a kid..him hitting my bag and saying he’d take me to get ice cream.  Lol.  He was there for footy in the uni games.  I was like, nah, I need to get to Byron today, want to take me to the train station?  So that was awesome, got a lift to the train station!!  He was from Melbourne and he had his own company, towel clothes. Lol.  It seems like everyone in Australia is very self motivated and has some business of their own.  So now I am en route to Byron where I’ll meet up with Curtis and also later in the week the American kids I met at Mitch and Hickey’s house in Melby may come up to hang out in Byron.  They just got a place to live in Ballina which is 20 min away from Byron Bay.
Wow.  So I just read over this.  Didn’t really edit much but I want to apologize for the lack of clarity and organization.   I swear I went to college and I can write an organized coherent essay, you totally can’t tell from this thought. Lol.  Its as random and whackey as my own thought process is.  But none the less, I enjoy writing it and I hope you enjoy reading it.  Let me know if you read this, or if its just Mom and Ar? Erica?  Love you guys!! I’m going to BYRON BAY!!! WHOOP WHOOP! Double whoop!
I’m on the scenic bus going down the coast, its winding through all these little beach towns.  Its really nice and it was only $20!!!  Its going to take about two hours to get there.  The express bus gets there in about an hour.  So I wanted to write these new words and phrases down before I loose them.
Oh and my many nicknames so far: Raccoon, Snake Eyes, Yank, Emsy, Lady Luck, and Florida, lol how creative.  I think there was one more but can’t remember!  Raccoon has stuck.  Jellain’s family calls me that still and the kids that I met in Melby call me that still.  Its fun to have nicknames!! Haha.  Ever since being deemed a raccoon, I feel like Mitch really got it right..I feel like a scavengers, savenging my way around oz.  ok lets see..back to those phrases: wanka, not wankerrrrrrrr. Bang a U-ey, means to make a u turn. Chop a block, means full.  Chook= chicken that a bogan/yobo eats.  Those two words mean a redneck type person.  Nakerd, but sounds like knak-ud, means tired.  There are so many more! Shoot! I just want to remember them!!  I learned a lot hanging out with the aussie boys, but they mumble and so I have a hard time understanding what they’re saying half the time.

Nick, Jellain’s bf, his dad came over the other day and I let him in (see I am so comfortable in that house, I opened the door and let a stranger in as if it were my own)  Nick asked if we met and he said yea yea we met.  Then he looked at me like, really?  When Nick told him that I was from the states he goes, OH A YANK!!!! Five minutes later he asked if I was from Sydney.  Lol.  I love driving through the coast.  There are so many hills and mountains to carve through.  I love houses on hills!

So I’ve been here in Byron for a few days now with Curtis.  It’s really cool to see him, we’ve had tons of fun so far. Its a tiny little backpacker town on a peninsula.  Beautiful beaches, great surf.  I am staying at this place called the Art Factory.  Its pretty much hippie central.  I am one of the few girls without dreads.  everyone is here to surf and hang out.  They have drum circles and fire twirlers and dreading fests. hahah. Its fun though.  The first day I was here Curtis and I went on a bush tucker hike.  We walked around for not even an hour and learned about how to survive in the wild with local plants growing around the place.  It was actually really cool and we loved it!!  I’m getting anxious to go to the beach so I’ll make this quick.  Lets see…his friend Aaron from WA whom he met in NZ is also here and we hun gout, he’s fun.  My friend Kyle who I met in Melbourne is also here so last night we went out looking for something to do and the bars were kinda boring and none of us were going to pay for drinks.  Then, this one place said to get dancin on the tables, so we all jumped up and thrased a rug.  not cut a rug, we were dancin more than that.  It was hilarious. We got that party started!!  Imet a group of girls who are moving north via greyhound and we may travel together!!!!!! YAY! I just bought my packages for Whitsundays/Fraser/Sailing tour to Reef!!!!  Tell more about that later.  But I”m not srue what I should do, Robbie will be in Aus in about 4/5 weeks.  Curtis and Aaron are trying to convince me to get a job here and stay..comments?  Its a pretty cool place.  I could learn to surf and live on the beach!! Or I could travel more…?
