They call it BrisVegas..
On Sunday I was planning on staying in Surfer’s Paradise and couch surfing when Jellaine, who I met in Melbourne while couch surfing with Mitch and Hickey, called and asked if I wanted to go to the beach at Surfer’s and then come back to Brisbane with her. How nice!! So, I caught a bus up to Surfer’s and we went to the beach for a few hours. The weather was awesome and it felt so nice to be on the beach and have good company. Jellaine is awesome. She is really amazing and inspiring. She’s 26, works for a company doing PR part time because she started her own company designing shoes and bag accessories. Her family is from the Philippines and she went there to employ her family to help her make her products, then she sells them here. She has created this business and it is growing. I met her because she was showing her products in the Melbourne fashion expo. She is also a life coach of somesorts and she was telling me about the people she’s coached and their success. She’s just a really cool girl. She also helps provide for her family in the Philippines and her business also sponsors this organization that gives women in Mozambique the equity and opportunity to build their own company in order to have a substantial and self relying income. And, as I was telling her how I hoped to find a job, she is amazing, she said I could help her on weekends, cash in hand, and that she knows of a few jobs for backpackers where you make good money in just a few days doing fruit picking. She is really awesome. And so nice! So after we spent the day in Surfer’s at the beach and walking around the town, we drove back to her house, where, she has a HUUUUGE Alaskan Malamute. He’s soo cute!! I was excited to get somewhere where there are dogs because I miss mine. I’ve never been rock climbing before. We drove to Kangaroo Point with her boyfriend and brother and I did it! I don’t know how high the point is, but its just a cliff by the river, opposite of downtown, so when you reach the top, your view (esp at night when we went) is amazing. It was really high and a lot of fun. I can’t wait til Steve gets here so we can go!! I think I’m going to really enjoy Brisbane :)
